“I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall. I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me. Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” -Lamentations 3: 19-22
When it comes to the Coronavirus, I’m frequently hearing these words, “I am SO over it!” For a variety of reasons, thoughts of it do not bring fond memories to mind. For some, it’s the inconveniences it created in our lives. For others, it goes deeper. They’ve contacted it personally and had to battle it; or they personally know someone who has. Still others are dealing with the death of a loved one from it. With thoughts of COVID-19 come memories of affliction and grief, bitterness and depression. Many are wishing we could just put it behind us. But the reality is we will never just “…put it behind us.” It has caused, and will continue to cause, permanent change in our world.
As followers of Jesus, we have a message of hope we must look to lovingly and gently share every opportunity we get: God’s compassion and faithfulness are permanent as well! And He demonstrates them in new and fresh ways… every new day, every new week, every new month, every new season… so that we can face every new affliction with hope. God’s great love, His great kindness and loyalty is greater than the Coronavirus or any other affliction like it. We can trust Him to supply all we need to deal with any affliction that may come our way. He offers a limitless supply of direction, comfort, strength, peace and joy to all who put their hope in Him!
Dear Lord, Thank You for the new mercies you give us every day! May our hearts be filled with new songs to sing to You and new testimonies to share with others! In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen. Pastor Tammy
