The Book of Revelation
“Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.” Revelation 1:3
In the opening chapters of the book of Revelation, the risen and glorified Lord Jesus Christ dictates seven personal letters to seven historical churches. He doesn’t do this through angels or through apostles. These letters come directly from Jesus Christ—to real congregations wrestling with real struggles in a real world.
They sound exactly like the struggles we see in churches today.
One church, busy, doctrinally sound, and completely cold toward God. Another is faithful and suffering, wondering if God even sees their pain. One has grown so comfortable—wealthy, self-sufficient, and spiritually asleep without even knowing it. Another has opened its doors to teaching that sounds reasonable but slowly leads people away from truth. Yet another one stands against enormous opposition with almost no resources—and God swings a door wide open before them.
Seven letters. Seven churches. Seven diagnoses of the spiritual conditions that have always existed—and still exist—in the Body of Christ today.
Beginning mid-July, Enon will journey through these letters week by week in a series called Letters to the Church. Each week, we will sit with one church, hear what Christ commends, hear what He confronts, and hear what He calls us to in response. These are not letters written about us; they are letters written to us.
Why are we doing this sermon series? Because Jesus still walks among His churches. He still sees. He still speaks. And He still calls His people back to the things that matter most.
No matter where any of us are in our walk with Christ—God has a word for us to listen to and be changed by. I pray we have open eyes to see and ears to hear what He says to us at this time.
I love you all,
Pastor David
